I Was Supposed to be a Princess

April 17, 2025 at 11:44 AMv3.5

[Verse 1] They brushed my hair and told me I could do no wrong Every crooked crayon line was a masterpiece all along They said the world would bend for me if I just believed But no one bowed when I turned sixteen [Verse 2] Gold-star girl in every frame, a ribbon in my hair Clapped for every cartwheel, like I was floating on air But real life don’t hand out crowns for showing up And the mirror got quiet when the sparkle wore off [Chorus] I was supposed to be a princess Perfect, loved, and effortlessly blessed But the world don’t work like bedtime tales And fairy dust don’t leave a trail Now I’m here in boots, not glass slippers Counting truths like broken mirrors I was supposed to be a princess Turns out I’m just me, and that’s a mess [Verse 3] Got trophies for breathing, smiles for just standing still Till silence moved in like a storm I couldn't kill The kingdom they built in me began to rust Now I trade daydreams in for dust [Bridge] I don’t hate them for the lie Just wish someone had taught me how to cry When castles fall and stories end And no one calls you “darling” again [Chorus (repeat)] I was supposed to be a princess Golden girl with a perfect dress But the crown was paper, the throne was gone And I’ve been stumbling all along Still, I’m here in boots, not glass slippers Trying to grow from all these splinters I was supposed to be a princess Now I’m just me—and maybe, that’s endless [End]

Yes, that is true! But what I wanted to say was maybe more about that kids shouldn't be treated like princesses, it is okay to sometimes tell them what to do or not to do, they will benefit from it themselves too, eventually. But of course it is a balance, kids need freedom too.
