He Can't Go

December 6, 2024 at 7:37 AMv4

A little girl with big bright eyes, her world a canvas wide, Excited whispers filled the air, for a field trip to decide. But when they hinted the boy in class might tag along, her smile began to fade, With him there, it just wouldn't be the same, He's going to make our trip lame. "He can't go," she whispered to herself, In the quiet of her room, where dreams still dwell, Why does he always have to be included? Our trip won't be the same, He should be excluded. He can't go, never let him go. Teenage years, love bloomed bright, in each other's eyes they found, Skipping stones by the riverside, their laughter a joyful sound. But when he learned he was headed to Europe, his name atop the list, The shock washing over her. She felt her stomach twist. "He can't go," she cried out to the sky, In the depths of her despair, asking why, With dreams of their future and joy's soft glow, For fear of losing him in battles unknown, He can't go, never let him go. Years flew by, their love endured, through laughter and through tears, But as they reached their middle years, a diagnosis confirmed her fears. Though it came early, his resolve remained strong, She vowed to stand by him, where they both belong. "He can't go," she pleaded with the night, In the silence of their room, bathed in moonlight, Through the pain and sorrow, through the to and fro, She fights for him, she won't let him go. He can't go, never let him go. Underneath the stars, where their love did grow, She whispers to the night, a promise she won't forego. In every heartbeat, his memory she'll stow, He can't go, never let him go.
