The Lonely Wolf

July 30, 2024 at 5:51 AMv3.5

Each night I hear The lonely wolf cry Mourning for what she’s lost. To the moons she howls Each night in the dark Asking why is she alone? “Everything has a mate,” She tells the shining moons As they look upon her from above. “A lowly cricket has someone, So why must I be alone Crying out all on my own?” Those golden eyes wept to the moons, Begging for someone. A single wolf was all she wanted— Someone to call her own. But as time rolled on, No wolf came And she was alone. Why oh why Does the mourning wolf cry? Why oh why Does she want to die? Why oh why Does she hurt inside? Why oh why Won’t the pain subside? Each night she cried and begged the moons “Give me someone to love! Why am I so undeserving When the world has someone? “The world has you, precious moons, And you have the world! You give to each other— A symbiosis that I yearn for!” Those golden eyes wept to the moons, Begging for someone, A single wolf was all she wanted— Someone to call her own. But as time rolled on, No wolf came And she was alone. Why oh why Does the mourning wolf cry? Why oh why Does she want to die? Why oh why Does she hurt inside? Why oh why Won’t the pain subside? One night she awoke To the howl of another— Distant but not far. She looked up at the moons Who had gathered as one In the form of an eye And knew they were blessing her. Off she ran with all her might Following the plaintive cry That so matched her own. Through the dark forest she raced Heart beating within her breast Longing to find the voice that called. Why oh why Did the mourning wolf cry? Why oh why Did she want to die? Why oh why Did she hurt inside? Maybe just maybe The pain will subside? Up a mountain side she raced to the top And found what she was looking for. A large grey wolf turned toward her Their golden eyes met And they nuzzled each other close. “The time had not come For you to find your love,” The moons told her from above. “Now this wolf will be yours And forever he will love you. Your patience has paid off And now you will never be alone.” Those golden eyes wept to the moons, Begging for someone no more, A single wolf was all she had— Someone to call her own. But as time rolled on, More wolves came— Her children— And she was never alone. Why oh why Did the mourning wolf cry? Why oh why Did she want to die? Why oh why Did she hurt inside, When perfect love Was waiting for her up high
