The Avenues

[instrumental intro with reverb guitars] [Verse 1] Some things are better left said, some sayings are better left done. [Verse 2] Some meanings are better left alone, some loners are better left. [Pre-Chorus] And some markers should better mean something, so when our paths curve from a distance, they could cross our meanings and say our better things— left done and meant said. [Chorus] Finally, the happening is at our front door, and we decide to leave the room, to ignore the persistent knocking— from within our mind, from within our meaning. [Verse 3] And within should be the curved path of resistance, the straight path of destruction, the simple path of resilience, the hard path. [Bridge] And the avenues are shrinking, their width along the way, the avenues are shrinking, their presence fading away. [Chorus – building] The avenues are resisting our erasure of the way, the avenues are aligning, along the path of least resistance— along the way we better leave and mean our sayings. [Outro – soft, contemplative] And as we walk through the door, the key to the meaning of it all was always really on the other side, or maybe it would be better to leave— anyway.
