Wearing Old Genes

March 4, 2025 at 1:28 PMv3.5

[Intro] Old genes - they fit so comfortably Even with their faded character (those old genes) They slip on so very easily Even though they no longer fit me (those old genes) How long will they last? When will those stains begin to bother me (those old genes) Maybe I need something new A better fit for who I am now (but change is hard) Today I'm livin something new I've outgrown the genes that used to fit (but change is hard) If I change, who will I be then? New genes will mean a new me. (that's feelin scary] If I don't change them, then what? Without new genes I'll become extinct (replace those old genes - guess I must) I was a predator, those old genes made me Can I give that up? Will I know how ta be? (Woah, who is that guy?) Kill, be killed, that was the old genes Now it's growin, that's what I'm knowin (replace those old genes - it is a vision) Time to step up Time to grow up Time to stand up Time to be more Old genes were then New genes are now (scary is not changin) (scary is not changin) [Outro, End]

I liked this idea. This version was an experiment. Yet, it seems to have some traction. So, I'm reworking it.

As a neurologist one of my interests is a neuroscience question: do our "old genes" hold us back from the potentials of this era. A great deal of current human behavior is a reflection of behavioral styles that evolved many thousands of years ago. Thus, for example, we still have "Roman" colosseums full of people cheering some kind of ritual battle. AI may be the wild card that either makes us or breaks us. We'll see. Now I'm going to have a look at what interests you!
