Attila, king of the Huns

April 23, 2025 at 5:36 AMv3.5

[Attila the Hun was the leader of the Huns from 434 to 453 AD. Under Attila, the Hun Empire reached its greatest extent and became an existential threat even to the Roman Empire. Attila died on his wedding night with Ildico, a German princess. The cause of his death is unclear. According to Roman sources, Attila was buried in three coffins: the first with gold, the second with silver and the third with iron, to show that these three things corresponded to the most powerful of all kings: Iron because he subdued the nations, gold and silver because he received the honours of both kingdoms. His tomb is said to be in the River Tisza in Hungary]. [Verse 1] Son of the plains, where the wild winds cry, Where shadows are long 'neath the open sky. Raised with his brother Bleda in youth, Two Hun-born souls, bound by fate and truth. [Verse 2] Together they ruled, for a fleeting while, Till Attila chose a darker style. He claimed the crown with a ruthless hand, As if heaven had marked him to lead the land. [Chorus] Attila, King of the Huns so bold, His name still echoes in legends told. Attila, who never bowed to man, Now sleeps beneath the Tisza’s span. [Instrumental] [Verse 3] With bow and arrow he threatened Rome, And stormed through Gaul, far from home. On Catalaun's fields the sky turned black, two armies met in thunderous attack. [Verse 4] Huns against the Western Roman Empire the battle was fought with weapons and fire. Attila's army lost the battle and retreated, but his aggression was not destroyed. [Chorus] Attila, King of the Huns so bold, His name still echoes in legends told. Attila, who never bowed to man, Now sleeps beneath the Tisza’s span. [Instrumental] [Verse 5] Ildico, a princess fair and proud, Waited to wear her bridal shroud. But on her first night, he drew his last breath. At dawn Attila had a visit from death [Verse 6] Three coffins - of iron, silver, gold, Buried in a place - hidden and untold. The river Tisza has embraced him tightly and will protect him mightily.
