When I Hold My Little Girl
Lyrics by Steven R. Drennon, ©️ 1990 - 2025 Please check out my YouTube channel if you get a chance: https://www.youtube.com/@firstep3 [Verse 1] I am not the greatest man who ever came along, And I may not ever write the greatest country song. But there’s one who always smiles at every song I sing. That’s my little baby girl, and to her I’m everything. [Verse 2] I am not the smartest man to pose a question to, But I’ll always do my best to answer them for you. Although I’m not always right, my daughter thinks I’m wise. She thinks I know everything. I can see it in her eyes. [Chorus] She doesn’t see the flaws the world can see, And being just her daddy’s good for me. I might not wear a gold crown on my head, I'll choose the paper one she made instead. Then every time she runs into my arms, She knows she's safe, away from any harm. I may not be a hero in this world, But I feel like one, when I hold my little girl. [Verse 3] I am not the strongest man. I never made that claim. When she hurts, I choke back tears; for that I feel no shame. But to her I’m just as strong as Superman must be. I grow soft and weak inside every time she smiles at me. [Verse 4] I am not the richest man who ever graced this earth. Given happiness or wealth, my happiness comes first. Though I may not ever be the king of all the world, I can feel just like a king when I hold my little girl. [Instrumental Outro]

When I was 29, I became a single father to a beautiful little 6 mo. old girl who was, and still is, my pride and joy. Some of my favorite songs were written for her, but I haven't turned many into music because they are so personal for me. This song I wrote for her just a couple of months before she turned 2. I was never able to sing it to her, though, because I would get choked up and never be able to finish. Thank you Suno, for letting me "sing" this to my daughter. I love you Honey Bear.

Well - I also have 2 daughters who are adults and lead their own lives. I am lucky because we often see each other and talk. Without them the world would be barren and poor. A beautiful song. Which forces you to remember.

Thank you so much, and I'm sure you know exactly how I felt in this song. I think my proudest accomplishment in life has been that I continue to have a strong connection with each of my children where we talk weekly. It makes me sad for those who don't have that opportunity.

I miss my dad, it's been 40yrs since we saw each other. I don't even dream about him now, it's been too long. She is lucky to have you.👍

Thank you, I am so thankful for the relationship I've had with both of my daughters. They helped make me the man I am today. I find it so sad that more men don't recognize and appreciate what a gift it is to be a father.
