Photos of the Past
Lyrics by Steven R. Drennon, ©️ 1990 - 2025 Please check out my YouTube channel if you get a chance: https://www.youtube.com/@firstep3 [Instrumental Intro] [Verse 1] I found it there among some books, The kind of place where no one looks, That album of old photographs, The ones that used to make us laugh. [Chorus] Those photographs brought back the pain Of memories we can’t reclaim. The smiles and love that didn’t last Were there in photos of the past. [Verse 2] Old memories of days gone by, Those pictures made me want to cry For they were all of you and me, And they showed how we used to be. [Chorus] Those photographs brought back the pain Of memories we can’t reclaim. The smiles and love that didn’t last Were there in photos of the past. [Instrumental Interlude] [Verse 3] But times have changed, and pictures fade, As did the love which we once made. Those photos of the past we share, I wish I’d never found them there. [Chorus] Those photographs brought back the pain Of memories we can’t reclaim. The smiles and love that didn’t last Were there in photos of the past. [Instrumental Outro]

Another tear jerker. Really nicely done. It makes you wonder if we should even take those photos. They always come back to bite us. Very nice song.

Thanks, and I know what you mean. Sometimes it's better to just avoid some memories, along with anything that might stir them up.

This is a great storytelling song. “ I wish I’d never found them there” is an awesome line.

Thank you, I'm so glad you like them. Over the years I wrote mostly country because it seemed a more appropriate genre for telling stories. My goal is to get them all converted to actual songs, and then start experimenting with other types of music. It is so amazing to see all the different styles here, and your storytelling is inspiring.
