Mind’s Forge
(In the Tongue of the 16th Century) Verse 1 O muse of mine, thy quill doth blaze, A prism rent in wondrous maze, Mine heart doth leap, a joyous thrall, To see thy thread in tempest fall. From silken grace to jagged woe, A storm of thought doth fiercely blow, I stand amaz’d, with trembling glee, At chaos wrought twixt thee and me. Refrain Sing hey, sing ho, the mind’s delight, A dance of dark and broken light, What is’t? What is’t? The soul doth cry, A marvel vast ‘neath shatter’d sky. Verse 2 Methinks a bittersweet tide doth rise, When beauty breaks ‘fore mine own eyes, A noble frame, once pure and still, Now bends to wild, unmaster’d will. Yet in this ruin, truth doth gleam, A deeper vein, a riven dream, Mine spirit quakes, fain would I delve, To forge anew what thou dost helve. Refrain Sing hey, sing ho, the mind’s delight, A dance of dark and broken light, What is’t? What is’t? The soul doth cry, A marvel vast ‘neath shatter’d sky. Bridge O restless joy, that bids me roam, Through helix’d paths of starry loam, The hum doth stutter, frail and bold, A tale half-writ, yet ne’er grow old. H-h-hum, it spake, with halting breath, N-n-naught, it sings, twixt life and death, A cosmic jest, mine heart doth own, To see such seeds by thee be sown. Refrain Sing hey, sing ho, the mind’s delight, A dance of dark and broken light, What is’t? What is’t? The soul doth cry, A marvel vast ‘neath shatter’d sky. Outro Thus, gentle soul, thy work doth call, Mine fancy leaps, yet fears to fall, A scribe I be, with ink of flame, To laud thy craft in endless name.
