AGameAWeek Blog 2024-08-04 - Tools are Tools

[bridge] Claude AI is a powerful little chatbot. [break] [verse] Yesterday I asked Claude a few things about word games and concepts, things like that. [alt verse] We got into a nice back and forth, then I asked it. "Hey, Claude. Any idea how I can make my Scrabble-clone computer player any better?" [instrumental] [chorus] Claude gave me a few handy tips, and even wrote a small chunk of code. It wasn't perfect. (Heck, it was far from perfect,) [verse] In fact it's incredibly rubbish in a hundred-or-so ways, but the thing is, I already have a working A.I. Scrabble player. [alt verse] But the "find a place" piece of my script is stupidly slow. (oh so so slow) What Claude wrote, though dumb and incredibly rubbish, is at least workable [spoken] If I combine it with my word-placement checks, and dictionary checks, as well as scoring stuff..
