Manifesto for Honest Listening on SUNO๐๏ธ This song may sound happy, but is it really? That dependsโdid you take the time to listen? And thatโs exactly what we need to talk about: taking the time to listen. When I was a "small account," I received likes on some of my songs. I was honoredโI thought my music must truly appeal to those who listened. But over time, I realized something that made me lose faith in this platform. Those likes werenโt always genuine. It wasnโt my song they likedโฆ it was an unspoken exchange: "Iโll give you a like if you give me one back." Not everyone acts like this, I assure you. โSo, how should we really be giving likes on SUNO? You listen to the song, and you like it? โก๏ธ You like it. 2๏ธโฃ You listen, itโs not your style, but you recognize the artistic effort (great visuals, original lyrics, a surprising styleโฆ)? You like it, in support of the artistโs work. 3๏ธโฃ You havenโt listened? โก๏ธ You donโt like it. 4๏ธโฃ You havenโt listened to this song, but you know and appreciate the artistโs universe? You like it, as a vote of support. You have already listen others songs of his universe, and you will take your time later to listen his new song. But thatโs not whatโs happening on SUNO. I was surprised to see some users with MORE likes than views. I thought, "How is that possible? Are they liking without listening?" Then I realizedโฆ On SUNO, people are liking songs they havenโt even listened to. There is something positive that has happened in the meantime: the existence of a comment section that will allow you to express yourself in order to give the reasons for your vote. This is a major step forward. ๐ฑIs this healthy?๐ฑ Weโre talking about music. Valuing music means recognizing talent, effort, and time spent creating it. Do you truly believe that music rushed out in a hurry has the same quality as a carefully crafted piece? This system kills small but talented artists, the ones who actually deserve to be discovered. For example, I've the case of @zygao ('"Absolute Cinema"). He is totally upset. He understood that he could never develop on this platform, his dreams are shattered. I regularly go to see what he produces, I give him my opinion at his request. But I see that he is dejected. He is not the only one, there are an impressive number of @zygao on this platform. But you understood, your destiny is to wander in the limbo of Suno, with very few views. It's just an example among others. [Instead of "zygao", you could write many other name, but I can't all mention them here : @The Jester, @The_Demiurge, @wlllllx, @hiatus, @ella, @busy, @tess_thursday, @maybe, @arachnobeat, @nenolo, you who are reading, ...] Personally, I come to doubt everything. Do people really like my music? Have they really listened to it? DON'T THINK I'M A SAINT. I'M A SINNER. I'm trapped in this game too. I have to do this to get my messages across or to broadcast my music to a very large number of people. I would like to point out that my approach is totally altruistic. It's just the pleasure of sharing my music that drives me. But I have no other solution. My vision of Suno, above all, is the values โโof SHARING. ๐SOME QUESTIONS FOR YOU:๐ 1๏ธโฃDo you agree with this principle? If you clicked on my song, what reasons made you do it? 3๏ธโฃOr what do you propose for changing that system? Tell me in the comments. If things don't change, if they are not discussed, we will all be forced to use these unethical methods. Unfortunately, I have no other alternatives. We have to get out of this trap together. But, how can we do that ? I can't do it alone. Now #SUNO'S_SPIRIT is awakening. Let's build a more ethical SUNO TOGETHER. This system creates tensions between users and discouragement. Some don't even ask themselves questions anymore, because they have integrated this way of working into themselves, "c'est comme รงa". AND I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING AGAINST THEM. THEY ARE VICTIMS. VICTIMS OF THIS COMPLETELY UNFAIR AND INSANE SYSTEM. IT'S THIS SYSTEM THAT I QUESTION. We are repeating a pattern that is well anchored in the way Suno works. We are trapped in the game. As long as this system is in place, I have chosen to help small accounts by using it, because they do not have the strength to be visible. They are unfairly disadvantaged. So think carefully about what you do when you click on a song on SUNO. Listen before you like. Thank you for taking the time to read. You can consider this as my Valentine's Day song. If I do this, it's because I love all the people of SUNO.

Frankly, I initially came here so that I could take almost fifty years worth of lyrics and finally hear them set to music. If nobody ever gave me a single like, I would still keep going, because this has been the culmination of a lifelong dream for me. The fact that so many people do seem to like my music has been very rewarding, and I am truly grateful for that. Having comments, though, are so much more meaningful and beneficial, so I am very glad they finally added this feature.

maybe they should make it so you gotta listen to at least 30-60 seconds of a song before the thumb up is enabled ๐คทโโ๏ธI am however going to give you a like Lucilius, if not only for the beat and message;)

Thank you Maja! I'm agree with you for all what you said.

๐ค Or think about thisโฆ My other suggestion is:
๐จ Trendings should disappearโALL of them. They divide, fuel competition, and kill dreams. We all want to be heard, but with millions of users growing daily, the system is unsustainable.
๐ค Iโd rather see Suno evolve and invest in a smart algorithm ๐ง that learns from users, their music ๐ต, and styles, recommending what they truly want to hear.
Question for everyone: Why did you join SUNO?

agreed its annoyiong to see the same songs on there for months like I have like and unliked these songs numerous ties...just out of annoyance...

Unfortunately, to promote your work you have to play the game with likes. In principle, there is nothing bad here, except for one thing: if you listen and really evaluate the artist!!! In response, if another user considers my song good after listening and rates it, that's right!!! And when they put likes for the sake of likes, that's not right, but no one can forbid it)
Alan Gu 13w ago
To support the authors, I got the idea to write a song "people of the Suno", where I express my respect for the authors of the songs and admiration for their work. I hope that it raised at least someone's spirits, and perhaps even added motivation. For me, this is a greater reward than likes!!!

I know by this point the comments section is already flooded, and that people have already said this--but I REALLY appreciate these efforts you are going through to make this happen. Reading this and some of the other songs for Suno movements, has reminded me that this isn't JUST a place to make silly songs--it's a whole community of people! So anyone reading this... take into consideration any ulterior motives you may have, please!

My personal answer:
I joined SUNO to create and listen to music, but I fell into the LIKE game. Now, I spend most of my time supporting others, because as @Prox-Music said, those without a community have few options.
๐ This isnโt the right path. Amazing songs ๐ต are getting lost. Today itโs us, tomorrow itโll be others.
Without trendings, quality would matter more than popularity. Thatโs my opinion. Thanks, everyone! ๐ #ETHICAL_SUNO #SUNOSPIRIT

I've said it and even written to support a number of times about it: smaller creators need their own showcase/feed, almost like a creek that feeds into the larger stream of trending. Meanwhile, I simply do what I can for them behind the scenes: mentoring, putting their barely known songs on my monthly"Songs of the Day" playlists, following them, and so on. Thanks for also caring about them! It's a tragedy, all the quality that's falling through the cracks.
RedSpiceX 13w ago
I usually like songs if I like the beats. Tbh, imo, I think my likes may affect the music AI generates for me (not sure of this). To appreciate a creator or express gratitude to them, I like the songs I find best appeals to me. So, I am part of the game being played. Thanks for bravely calling this out loud.
Ambidexta 13w ago
Great song, I totally agree with the point. In fact, I once created a similar song about a song-liking bot when there were more likes than listens. But, I subscribe to only a small amount of people and make sure I listen and like genuinely. I will never be in any trends but this is not my purpose, I am here to create and enjoy the others genuine music.

Hello Lucius๐โโ๏ธIt's only been a month since I started using suno, but I immediately felt the same way as you๐คOf course, I don't listen to all the songs until the end, but I still try to leave a heartfelt comment on the songs I want to listen toโจIt may be a small thing, but it's good for each and every user, and it may be a way to prevent users from leaving๐กI'm going to stop uploading my own songs for a while and try to follow up! Thank you for your courageous action

Listened 69 times before liking it. No, thatโs not true,I actually only listened 6.9 times.
Hurry up and trend, my marble god of love. I feel alone at the top without you by my side.
Your critique is valid, and with an insane banger to back it up. Dancing and thinking at the same time, no one does it like you.
In my humble opinion, no matter how genuine love is, receiving it is always a blessing, and giving it always takes effort, especially with rate limit exceeded>
13w ago
It has practically become a limited resource, and it costs time.
I appreciate it nonetheless, trying to listen to as much music as possible.
Love you ๐๐คHappy Valentine's Day!

In all honesty, I've been thinking about this for a while, but was too scared to say anything, for fear of people stopping to like my songs- Kudos to you for speaking out!

the addition of comment section was a good move by Suno (I love it), but before that came, liking was only way to be heard. Like Rose of Passion said, I'd like someone's song and then they'd like 5 in a row of mine (hmm did they listen or they just like all of the beginnings of my songs and then liked and moved on? or they just clicked away). Then I'd reciprocate. I got caught up in that sin too -- but the comment section now serves as my way to really express my appreciation โค๏ธโค๏ธ๐๐
๐ Lucilius ๐ 13w ago
Don't worry, I said i'm not a saint. You can see this song as a confession. But I have no choice with this system. Clicking was entirely a language. Difficult to interpret sometimes. We don't have the intentionality that goes with this click. The comment section will be used for that. It could slow down the number of unjustified clicks. I don't hesitate to go to the creators' profile to tell them that a comment is missing with their like ๐, especially if I don't know it.
SynthBird69 13w ago
I think I started supporting Lucilius and Roseofpassion because of the image they have created. You are building a community.
๐ Lucilius ๐ 13w ago
Thank you for your comment. You are right. Roseofpassion does a great work, for helping the unseen. I've discover you thanks to Rose. Otherwise I would have missed the king of Drift Phonk on Suno.
Brutus 13w ago
Even without lyrics, it's a good dance melody
๐ Lucilius ๐ 13w ago
Thank you! It's a very constructive comment.
Mr Villain 13w ago
Thank you for your courage and bravery in exposing this. Music should be valued for its quality, not just for exchanging likes. I clicked because this message is crucial for the community.
SUNO should count likes only if the song was played.
A fairer algorithm that highlights effort, not just popularity.
Better discovery tools for unseen artists.
I support a more ethical and transparent SUNO. #ETHICAL_SUNO #SUNO'S_SPIRIT
๐ Lucilius ๐ 13w ago
I will add to your comment. I think that a sponsorship system should be created. So that a "big" can put forward "small" ones of his choice.

Encore une belle interprรฉtation de la frustration environnant et global d'un systรจme basรฉ sur la culture du "like back".
๐ Lucilius ๐ 13w ago
Tu n'es pas venu me mettre un รฉmoji coeur pour me faire plaisir.
Nenolo 13w ago
Uh, where to start? Like seems to be a way for support. But when I see much more likes then listening, well... Personally, I'd rather want to people hear my song. To feel that emotion. I click on your songs (and I'll be totally honest) "couse I love you, and I know that I will like your new songs. I'm already familiar with your style, and that is my jam.
Nenolo 13w ago
I'm at work and I'm constantly being interrupted, I'm losing my train of thought.
Excavator 13w ago
Hey Lucilius! Here are my thoughts. First, the social media "like" system is the worst. It has become a means of appreciation. And the world is used to it. So, I just go with the flow. This is not what I want to do, but it's also true that likes are the only way to show support. Second, the comment function only accepts polite words. I hate having to embellish my words.
Excavator 13w ago
I use this like system to mean "I've listened to this!" Then, I actually listen to the song. I look for the creator's intention in any music. I translate the lyrics, and although there are many things I don't understand due to cultural differences, I try to interpret them as best I can since I have time. Then, if I find something interesting, I comment. That's the process.
Excavator 13w ago
My personal thoughts:
SUNO is a fun toy.
I don't care what other people think.
I want more people to like and enjoy a variety of music.
The only value of a song is what the creator thinks. It's not about quality, artistry, or popularity, it's about whether you're satisfied with the song that was made as a result of doing what you wanted to do. It has nothing to do with other people's opinions.
Taoro Games 13w ago
You're wrong, music should be shared. I for one am very sorry that you have removed your works from the public. :(
