'Twas the night before the election, when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse; The ballots were cast with great fervor and care, In hopes that a leader would soon be there; The pundits were nestled all snug in their beds; While visions of victory danced in their heads; And mama in her scarf, and I in my trump cap, Had just settled our minds for a long night's nap, When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash. The moon on the face of the freshly-cut grass, Gave a glow to the yard and the folks walking past, When what to my wondering eyes did appear, But a bright, flashy car, and Donald Trump near, With a little old driver so lively and quick, I knew in a moment, this must be the pick. More rapid than eagles his supporters they came, And he tweeted, and shouted, and called them by name: "Now, Mar-a-Lago! now, rallies! now, votes and applause! On, pollsters! on, strategists! on, all of my cause! To the front of the stage! to the podium tall! Now shout away! shout away! shout away all!" As leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, When they meet with an obstacle, they soar to the sky; So up to the spotlight the crowd they flew With signs full of hope, and Donald Trump too— And then, in an instant, I heard in the air The cheering and shouting, excitement everywhere. As I peered out the window, feeling quite round, Donald Trump came striding with a bound. He was dressed all in suit, from his head to his foot, And his clothes were all flashy, none would dispute; A bundle of promises he had flung on his back, And he looked like a mogul just finishing his snack. His eyes—how they sparkled! his laughter, so merry! His cheeks were like apples, his hair a bit hairy! His confident grin was drawn wide like a bow, And the tan on his skin was as bright as a glow; The mic he held tight in his hand with great glee, And the sound buzzed around him, as loud as could be; He had a broad smile and a belly of cheer That shook when he laughed, like he had not a care. He was bold and brash, a right jolly ol’ guy, And I chuckled to see him, I won’t even lie; A wink of his eye and a twist of his head Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread; He spoke not a word, but went straight to his plan, And rallied the crowd with the wave of his hand; And laying his finger aside of his chin, With a nod of conviction, he let the night begin; He sprang to his car, to his team gave a shout, And away they all flew, to spread word about. But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight— “Happy Election to all, and to all a good night!”
