The Porch - 5
[melodic piano intro] [verse 1] I went by the old house, The lights were all out. So I let myself inside. Went through the front door, But I don't live here no more. So many years have gone by. [Verse 2] It felt like November, And as I remembered. He was out back, In his favorite chair. Thought I'd go out there For a little while. He looked at me, And then he smiled. We'd have this time to share. [pre chorus] We laughed at bad jokes. We talked about folks. That we hadn't see for a while. We talked about the weather. And things we'd done toghether. Always with that easy smile. [chorus] I talked to Daddy on the porch last night. The world was perfect, yeah it felt so right. We must have stayed there until the morning light. I talked to Daddy on the porch last night. [Verse 3] Hours later, or so it was seeming. I realized that I was just dreaming. My heart ached, just like when he died. Didn't wanna wake up, it felt so real. Happiness in my heart, that I could feel. And the sorrow, in my sleep I cried. [Verse 4] The dream faded out. The spell was broke. My pillow was wet. When I awoke. I held tight to the memory. Every night. I hope that I can. Return to that porch. And see him again. The hole in my heart, is surely worth it to me. [pre chorus] We laughed at bad jokes. We talked about folks. That we hadn't see for a while. We talked about the weather. And things we'd done toghether. Always with that easy smile. [piano solo] [chorus] I talked to Daddy on the porch last night. The world was perfect, yeah it felt so right. We must have stayed there until the morning light. I talked to Daddy on the porch last night.
