AGameAWeek Blog - 2024-06-06 - A Day Backed Up
Yesterday I had it in my mind to do a complete backup. Although I do (of course) do regular backups, it's fairly common to find me not doing a complete backup for a while. They take forever to do, as I tend to rename the previous backup to a "Classic - Year-Month" folder, and start afresh with an all new shiny backup. This means every file is cleanly duplicated, as opposed to being the usual scan for what may or may not have changed since the last time. As much as I do trust FreeFileSync, there's always the chance that something may have gone awry with the backup, so a fresh clean backup is often a good thing. But that's about 120Gb in total, counting everything here, SoCoder, all my other sites, and all my older JNK Game code. I set things off about 10am, and all was done by about 11. PM. This morning, I still have a couple more bits and pieces to figure out, like the best way to store the SQL files securely throughout the backups. But most of that stuff's trivial. The hardest part is the waiting, as I also have to do my second offsite backup, too. (Good grief, they take forever!)
